Fizikalna terapija i rehabilitacija - GBB Concept Split i Zagreb

Calcifications can be formed in all joints, and most often we will find them in the shoulder, knee, hip or ankle. They are not isolated and cannot move, but permeate the tendon tissue.

People who lead a sedentary lifestyle, due to poor posture and inactivity of the upper body, unconsciously put strain on the shoulders, which makes this joint susceptible to the formation of calcifications. Calcifications can occur after microtraumas caused by certain injuries such as ruptures/tearing of tendons or the mentioned excessive load on certain joints (shoulder, knee, ankle).

HOW TO RECOGNIZE THAT IT IS A CALCIFICATION?

Some of the most common symptoms that may indicate calcifications are:

  • Tightness, discomfort and tension during movement;
  • Limited or complete loss of range of motion;
  • Sharp, stabbing pain even with minimal movement;
  • Inflammation of one part or the entire joint (e.g. shoulder, knee);
  • Loss of strength in the joint.
THERAPY:

Calcifications are treated with a combination of physical therapy and shockwave therapy. The shockwave breaks up and promotes the dissolution of calcifications, and in combination with manual techniques, kinesitherapy and electrotherapy, the tendon begins to gain full range of motion. It is important to note that the therapy is formed individually, depending on the needs and current condition of the client.

Shock wave therapy is not painful for the client, but some clients may experience some discomfort during the treatment due to the current state of the treated area. Most clients experience improvement in the treated area immediately after the treatment.
