WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS TO THE ANKLE WHEN IT IS SPRAINED?
An ankle sprain is one of the most common injuries of the musculoskeletal system, and it occurs when the foot is turned inward or outward in an uncontrolled manner.
For this reason, quality implementation of the therapeutic process is of great importance!
There are 3 stages when spraining an ankle:
The degree represents a mild ankle sprain that involves stretching the anterior and medial ankle ligaments.
The degree is a partial rupture of the anterior and/or middle ligament of the ankle. There is severe pain, swelling, hematoma, and movement restriction.
The third degree is a total rupture of one or more of the ankle ligaments mentioned above. A more complicated ankle sprain injury includes a bone fracture! Grades 1 and 2 are the most common ankle sprains and are very effectively treated with physical therapy.
THERAPY:
In the case of an ankle sprain, we first perform manual lymphatic drainage to reduce the swelling of the ankle and prepare it for the rest of the therapy. When the swelling has decreased, we start with a combination of manual therapy, electroprocedures that accelerate the regeneration of damaged ligaments and muscles, and targeted exercises!
